Who is Imogen Rose?
Imogen Rose is a New York City based singer-songwriter, whose music is grounded in the heartfelt folk of her Tucson, Arizona upbringing. Her style ranges from indie pop to jazz folk, mirroring the poetic language and succinct observational style of musicians such as Joni Mitchell, Adrianne Lenker, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Since embarking on her journey as a professional musician at fifteen, she has become a local figure in the Tucson music scene, performing at cafes, community gatherings, cherished venues, and music festivals alike. Her debut EP, Water for Blood, is a collection of original songs written and recorded at the age of fifteen, serving now as a time stamp of her initiation into the music industry, followed by hte release of two singles, Blue Year and Red Flags.
Imogen approaches her writing through the lens of honesty, seeking to reflect the nuance of the human disposition by distilling the universal into the particular. Her affinity for jazz vocalists such as Sarah Vaughan and Carmen McRae presents itself through her emotional melodies and colorful harmonic progressions.
Her forthcoming single, Communion, is to be released on December 3rd. Embroidered by the song’s poetic structure and lyrical impressionism, Communion embodies the relationship between spiritual connection and physical intimacy. The verse’s imagery presents a scene of integration, situating the connection between lovers as interwoven with the cyclical and symbiotic rhythms of nature. To the ear, this manifests in a joyous and funky interplay between strings, clarinet, and her own voice intertwined with complex harmonies..
